It’s “Gala in the Garden” time!

As you know, February 22, 2019 from 6 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. we are holding our annual gala at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. We are still seeking wine donations (or other spirits), basket donations, and even cash donations (if you’d like us to prepare a basket or pick up the wine/spirits for you). Anything you are willing to contribute is greatly appreciated. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or via board members. We will be selling tickets on February 12th at the luncheon, as well. Ticket sales end at 12 p.m. on February 15th.  Volunteers will be crucial on the day of the event. A big “Thank You!!!” to everyone who has given their time thus far. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. The gala team is going to keep running through the finish line!

What does your ticket get you?

Admission to the Huntsville Botanical Garden on the day of the event, one ticket for a free beer/glass of wine/soda, dinner by Bubba’s Silverspoon catering to include your choice of: London broil, chicken piccata, basil fettuccine, green beans, mesclun salad, and crème brûlée for dessert; the opportunity to bid in live and silent auctions, games, a beautiful glass to take home to commemorate the event graciously provided by our own Melinda Riling; musical entertainment provided by the band Free Fall (a big “Thank You!” to Judy Bicknell for linking us up); and dancing on the dance floor to close up your week and our event with pizazz. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening and tended by HBG bartenders.

There are a variety of ways to join the fun and volunteer/contribute!

  • Donate a bottle(s) of wine or other spirits for a “Wine Pull” giveaway
  • Donate a basket or gift card or sponsor a table
  • Haven’t bought your tickets yet? Just click here!
  • Volunteer for the event:
    • In advance by helping sell tickets or solicit baskets and gift cards
    • The day of the Gala you can help with set-up
    • During the Gala you can help with the silent auction or registration
    • After the Gala you can help with clean-up

Note: We will be collecting wine/alcohol and auction baskets at the February luncheon!

Hello!

I hope 2019 is starting out great for everyone. January is always a nice quiet time in our house as we recover from the holidays and get ready to start a new year. The club year is still going strong as we prepare for our biggest fundraiser. This year’s Gala in the Garden will be held at the Huntsville Botanical Gardens on 22 February. We hope you can all come out for an evening of food, fun, and festivities. We are still accepting donations of wine (or other spirits) for our wine pull, and baskets for our silent auction. Please contact Brandie Ragin or Cherrie Cain if you’d like to donate. More info on ticket sales is also available in the newsletter.

I need to give a HUGE shout out to our local Chapter of MOAA for their generous donation of the proceeds from the golf tournament in September. On January 30, 2019, the club was presented with a check for $11,000. This money will be used for scholarships to benefit area teens with ties to the Redstone community. Information on applying for scholarships is also available in this newsletter.

While we are on the subject of our amazing MOAA chapter, we are looking for people who will be here for the next year to help plan and organize next year’s tournament. Meetings have already started, and we are looking for a few people who can attend meetings and help with the event.  Because our board year and the planning of the event are on different time lines, we are looking for people to serve from February-September. Please contact me or any board member if you are interested.

See you all soon at the Chinese New Year luncheon!

Happy October Ladies!  I want so much to wear a nice sweater and boots, but clearly Alabama doesn’t agree.  I’ll be over here with my hot apple cider waiting.

We have had a vey busy start to the year.  It was great to see so many faces, new and old, gathering in September.  We even almost had too many people to seat, but we worked it out and I think a  good time was had by al.   Just a reminder to  RSVP to the evite before noon on the Friday before the luncheon. And Believe me, you don’t want to miss this one!  Halloween and Bunco all at the same place,  two of my favorite things!

I want to give a shout out to MOAA, and all of our members who came out in the heat to help out.  MOAA is a very generous contributor to our club and the scholarships that will be giving out in May.

Thank you to Susan Perna and the board for a wonderful Newcomer’s welcome.  We are looking forward to getting know all of you in the year to come!

We had a busy September, and October looks to be productive as well.  Plans are under way for our Gala at the Garden In February.  We’d love to see some new faces on the planning committee.

We are selling wreaths for Wreaths Across America again.  There will be a link in the Ways and Means section.  Fern has set our goal at 250 wreathes!  We can do it!

Blessings  until we meet again.

What a STELLAR night we had at the Space and Rocket Center for the Galaxy Gala! Thanks to all of you who showed up and showed your support for our annual major fundraiser.

We had an impressive turn out of people, donations, prizes and sponsors. The food was delicious, the music was amazing and the Saturn V never looked better under the stunning lighting donated by Rocket Event Design.

The club will continue to thank are generous sponsors throughout the year. Their sponsorship donations alone allowed us to raise $10,500. In addition to our incredible sponsors, we had more than 70 donors who contributed baskets, gift cards, items, and services to be used in our Live & Silent Auctions.
